As journalists, we piece together information to tell stories. But with a plethora of it at our fingertips and pieces to the puzzle scattered seemingly everywhere, how do we navigate through the noise? How do we verify what we find? And what tools are available to help us stitch together the fabric of our story?
This digital skills intensive will provide a foundation of battle-tested skills, tips and tricks for reporting digitally. From geolocating photos and finding removed content, to scraping data and automatically filing FOIA requests in batches, this intensive course aims to be an in-depth level-up from tools and skills sessions often found at journalism conferences.
Through three weeks, participants will meet twice-weekly on Zoom where instructors and guest speakers will lead activities and discuss some of the best practices of digital reporting. Tip sheets, class recordings and office hours will be made available to participants as well as a certificate upon completion.
The intensive is capped at 20 participants and registration is open to all, but priority will be given to AAJA members. Participants who are also AAJA members will receive additional benefits including access to our private Slack for connecting with classmates, knowledge shares and for staying in the loop on new tools and updates.
