From AAJA-HQ: Supporting the Next Generation

Mental Wellness In the wake of several recent tragic mass shootings in Uvalde, Buffalo, Laguna Woods and Dallas, AAJA wants to re-share our mental wellness resources available: our Mental Wellness Resource List, the AAPI Journalists Mental Health Fund and our AAJA Mental Health Funding Request for journalists to receive financial support for mental health services.

Educators Survey We want to identify the needs, challenges and goals of members who teach students or are thinking about moving into academia. If you’re an educator or potential educator in our organization, or if you're interested in collaborating on research projects on AAPI communities in media, fill out our AAJA Educators survey.

VOICES 2022 AAJA is proud to announce the students selected to participate in the 2022 VOICES program, who will create long-form journalistic projects virtually for in-person presentation at the #AAJA22 Convention.

JCamp 2022 After a record high number of applicants, AAJA is excited to announce the 2022 AAJA JCamp cohort. This will be our first in-person class since 2019.

2022 Scholarships Recipients The five recipients of this year’s Facebook Journalism Project Scholarship are Angelique Chen, Sriharsha Devulapalli, Minju Kim, Mingson Lau and Siqi “Karen” Wang. Minju Kim is also our Center for International Cooperation/Anna Chennault Scholarship recipient. 

The Yappie We're proud to be the fiscal sponsor for The Yappie, a nonpartisan publication dedicated to tracking the rise of AAPI political power.

TONIGHT, May 26 | yung AAJA & AAJA's Pacific Islander Task Force | The Art of Storytelling: A conversation with Pulitzer Prize finalist | Julian Aguon will discuss his Pulitzer Prize-winning piece, "To Hell with Drowning," and his upcoming book “No Country For Eight-Spot Butterflies.” Lenika Cruz, senior editor at The Atlantic, will discuss the editing process and pitching narratives rooted in our AAPI communities. TONIGHT, May 26 | Philadelphia Mayor’s Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs, Asian Arts Initiative, Office of Immigrant Affairs and Mayor’s Office of Public Engagement |  "RISE: A Love Letter to the Asian American and Pacific Islander Community" | Jeff Yang and Phil Yu will discuss their best-selling book, "RISE: A Pop History of Asian American Culture from the Nineties to Today" and the implications of Asian American and Pacific Islander visibility in pop culture. July 27-30 | AAJA-Asia | N3Con | The 12th New.Now.Next Media Conference will take place in Singapore on July 27-30. AAJA-Asia's board has approved a limited number of fellowships to help AAJA-Asia members who might be prevented from attending N3Con 2022 by serious financial difficulties aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic. If this is your case, apply for a fellowship here by June 15.

guidance The Society of Professional Journalists’ president, Rebecca Aguilar retweeted SPJ’s Code of Ethics calling for all journalists to refrain from asking families and survivors of the Uvalde, Texas mass shooting about their immigration status, citing that it is irrelevant and disrespectful to victims already suffering.

guide Editors of Color tweeted a guide for those who need racial diversity in their Twitter feeds. The Editors of Color list has 300 editorial pros of color and Native/Indigenous editors for you to follow, like, RT and hire.

directory The Center for Community Media's Black Media Map and Directory continues to add outlets for and by Black Americans. You can now find more than 400 Black media outlets in nearly every state in the U.S.

grant The TEGNA Foundation announced its first round of 2022 Media Grants to support training for the next generation of diverse journalists and education and development opportunities for professionals in the media field. 

mental health resource The Poynter staff reminds journalists to take care of their mental health with an article on different ways to handle covering multiple tragedies.
