We commend The New York Times’ decision to drop the hyphen in “Asian American.”

AAJA welcomes our new Program and Membership Coordinator and HQ Summer Interns!

Angela Tang (she/her/hersProgram and Membership Coordinator

Angela has organized on behalf of pan-Asian communities to foster civic engagement initiatives and culturally responsive programming in Houston, TX; Boston, MA; and Beijing, China. Angela was a printmaking studio assistant and college museum docent at Williams College, where she majored in Art History and Practice.

Yi-Shen Loo (she/her/hers) | 40th Anniversary Summer Intern

Yi-Shen is a rising senior at UC Berkeley, double majoring in Asian American Studies and Ethnic Studies and minoring in Japanese. She has previously interned for the National Japanese American Historical Society in San Francisco, where she worked on transcribing and archiving oral history interviews. She is passionate about creating spaces to uplift voices in the AAPI community, and in her free time, she loves to bake and go on hikes.

Daniella Ignacio (she/her/hers) | Communications and Engagement Intern

Daniella recently graduated from American University with B.A.s in Journalism and Musical Theatre. At AU, she was the Online Managing Editor for The Eagle. Daniella interned with the National Press Foundation and has bylines in D.C. Theatre Scene and American Theatre Magazine. She is interested in covering artists of color, especially fellow AAPI artists, and working with social media/multimedia. Outside of journalism, Daniella enjoys performing, creative writing, reading and learning new instruments. 

Joseph Malasa (he/him/his) | Programs Intern

Joseph is an aspiring storyteller and community builder for Asian American voices. He will be attending San Francisco State University for his M.A. in Asian American Studies and has previously graduated from the University of Virginia in a double major in Psychology and American Studies. He has worked on two presidential campaigns and one Virginia state campaign, where he captured the essence of mobilizing narratives to enact change.
