  • Get excited for #AAJA24 in Austin, Texas! Let us know your pitches for programming and speakers, and take your pitch ideas to the next level by joining AAJA’s Convention Programming Committee. Apply by Monday, Feb. 5 and submit pitches by Monday, Feb. 12. 
  • Got questions about #AAJA24? We’re here to answer your questions at an Ask Me Anything session on Monday, Jan. 22 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET! You’ll hear from our Convention Programming Committee leads. Register here.
  • AAJA-Sacramento is offering stipends for its members to help cover #AAJA24 convention costs. Learn more and apply here by Friday, March 15.

member highlight Ryan Doan-Nguyen, 2023 VOICES fellow, was featured in an NBC News segment about children of immigrants sharing their experiences with racism in Massachusetts. Doan-Nguyen talks about people not understanding his Southeast Asian identity and how he embraced his culture and heritage despite being mislabeled and misunderstood.

institute for independent journalists foundation survey If you’ve experienced a journalism layoff or buyout in the past year, the Institute for Independent Journalists Foundation needs your input. ILJ is conducting a census of journalists who were laid off and bought out recently. The goal is to understand the demographics, such as race, gender, disability, LGBTQ+ identity and age, of the nearly 3,000 people who left journalism organizations as they reduced the size of their workforces recently.
