From AAJA-HQ: #AAJA24 registration is now open, statement on resources for journalism layoffs

#AAJA24

Statement AAJA released a statement offering resources to journalists affected by recent layoffs. Some of our resources include consideration for waived membership fees and our career center that allows journalists to find job postings and connect with recruiters. Read the full statement here.

Programs

  • Attend our JCamp 2024 Q+A Session on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET! The session is headed by our co-leads who will cover the application process, the program and more. Register here by Wednesday, Feb. 7.
  • There’s still time to submit a mentor application for our 2024 Mentor Match cohort! We've received strong turnout in mentee applications, so we're looking for more mentors to help guide them. Apply to be a mentor here by Thursday, Feb. 15.
  • JCal, our California high school journalism program in partnership with CalMatters, is back for its second year! Learn more and apply by Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Feb 9 | AAJA-Chicago’s Trivia Bowl | Join AAJA-Chicago’s Trivia Bowl for dinner, trivia and raffle prizes at 5:30 p.m. at Northwestern University’s Medill campus downtown. Raffle prizes include signed baseballs from Cubs and Sox players and tickets to the Joffrey Ballet. RSVP here.

Feb 10 | Ten Times Better world premiere | Ten Times Better, a documentary about Asian American dance pioneer, George Lee, is premiering at the Lincoln Center in New York. The film was co-produced by Jon Funabiki. Learn more and buy tickets here.

AAJA's Syracuse University's student group held their first chapter meeting of the semester on Friday, January 26.

media reference guide Define American published the third edition of their media reference guide, titled Telling Authentic Immigrant Stories.
